pippi kneestockings are finished !

yeah! i finished! and they fit! and, would you believe that they weigh 102 grams and my leftovers weigh 98 grams?

i mostly followed the pattern as written, but changed the heel (the original pattern has the heel knitted in stockinette with a turning i don't really like) and toe (i made the foot a bit longer, and lucked out having my toe end with a 14 row stripe).

and how perfect to finish these socks when lolly is busy posting and preparing for ...

you can read about it here and sign up here. i'm getting excited contemplating what my next socks will look like! i imagine i will be going to bed with a stack of books and patterns tonight, to study.

i was out and about today, collecting some crochet supplies for my mom. i turned the corner and saw these shelves of fun fur and the sign. all i could think was, i hope this is the sign of a dying trend. but, i think lion brand is turning the corner and offering more sophisticated yarns and patterns.

mom decided she wants to make these felted little birds. the yarn used is lion brand's lion wool. i did not get the yarn called for in the pattern, but instead went for paton's classic merino ... it has more yardage for a lesser price, and has a better palette! i just hope she likes the colors i did pick, because i kinda changed my mind after i got off the phone with her. oops.

What cute little birds! If you have good wool leftovers, you could use them on the birdies.
I'm doing lots of sock knitting in the Lion King pit. My favorite right now is the toe up Jaywalkers using blue/gray Reginald. Fun!!

The little birds are so cute Devilkitty want to EAT them! Since Fibertrends seems to have stuff in the Lion Brand catalog, I wonder if they are FT or LB?
AA, is the Lion King everything they say it is and More???
(I really must know-- the level of freakout makes me want to take a nap ;)

Great socks! You have model them so we get the full effect. Those birds are so precous, they don't even look knit. A surprisingly high quality pattern for lion brand...

Hi DK, yes, indeed, the Lion King is all that. I can only hear it, mind you, since the pit is mostly covered and blocks our view of the stage. The only visual I have is when the actors and South African chanters dress as animals and parade through the house and up on to the stage. Way cool! And there's a decent amount of knitting time in this show!

Hi,

To answer DK, probably LB reknit Or suggested colors from their palette that matched. I am sure FT used something that she distributes for the original.

Natashua (very warm in her shawl, DK -- gotta email you.)

Yea for the socks! You finished them so quickly too - I am in awe. Socks take me forever to finish. I am hoping to finish one pair I have on the needles, and maybe another pair for Socktoberfest. I cannot set my goals too high - it just won't happen! Thank you so much for being a part of Socktoberfest too - it is going to be great great fun ;)

I had the same thoughts on the new LB catalog - they are turning the corner. I liked the designs for the Lion Cashmere, and those little birds are so incredibly adorable. I wish they had a knit pattern for them - I just can't handle the crochet. Maybe you can give me a lesson sometime... I wanna learn!

Take care~

xo,
Lolly

I tried to comment here awhile back and it wouldn't work so here I am, weeks later! These socks are just fabulous! And the felted bird pattern. Thank you for posting this. I can see a whole flock of these in every imaginable color, even plain white or black. Will you please post pictures when/if you make some?
